Square Enix Montreal is now Studio Onoma
After being acquired by Embracer Group, it’s now been confirmed that Square Enix Montreal is being renamed. The game development studio has been renamed Studio Onoma.
Square Enix Montreal was founded in 2011 by Square Enix then in 2013, it became dedicated to free-to-play titles. It was mostly known for creating mobile games such as Hitman Go and Lara Croft Go. A few of these titles were also released for PC and console later, but SEM was primarily a mobile game development company for Square Enix.
Now called Studio Onoma, the company provides information about its history and promises a positive future for the company and gamers. The name has changed by Onoma notes they are still “a studio that empowers creativity and innovation and always puts people before products.”
As expected, there’s no news yet about what kinds of games Studio Onoma intends to develop or what they might be working on.
